PRAIRIE SPIRIT RESPONDS TO CODE ORANGE
The COVID-19 Team, together with the Oversight Council has decided that out of an abundance of caution, in-person worship will be suspended until further notice. With the case numbers rising in the Winnipeg region we do not want to put any of our congregation at risk. Sunday services will be available on line, so watch for details.
Our Second Anniversary Celebrations, which were scheduled for October 11, will be held once we are all able to gather together safely in our church building.

At Prairie Spirit we were building a new and exciting community… and then in March, everything changed. Our community had to change. We were unable to meet together the way we always had. So, we built a new kind of community through on line worship and a virtual coffee time as well as small, physically distanced gatherings when that was allowed. Now your COVID-19 Team is announcing yet another change! We are happy to report that we are working towards reopening our Sanctuary to in-person worship on September 20. Here is what you can expect:
You will need to register to attend worship each Sunday. Between Wednesday and noon Friday, either phone the church at (204) 832-1000 or email at email@example.com and leave a message with the name(s) and contact number(s) for those you are registering. Registering is mandated by the government to allow for contact tracing in the event a COVID-19 case is found to be connected to our building.
Entry to the church
You will enter through either the east or west doors. You must maintain physical distancing both inside and outside the building. A mask will be required as you get to the door and at all times inside. You will be met by a greeter who will check you in and ask you a few questions. A hand sanitizer station will be available at each door and must be used before entering the Sanctuary.
Entering The Sanctuary
Taking your coats, you will proceed to the nearest Sanctuary door where you will be met by a greeter. You will leave your offering in the basket at this door and an usher will escort you to an assigned seat. Seats have been marked to allow for 2 metres of physical distancing. Family members may be seated together.
The Worship Service
The service will be shorter in duration and no choral singing, prayers or recitations will be allowed. In compliance with the rules of physical distancing, there will be no passing of the peace. Our minister, a reader, the music director and occasionally a soloist will lead us in worship.
At the end of the service you will be asked to remain in your seats and an usher will direct you in exiting the Sanctuary, beginning with the back pews. The congregation is expected to leave the building, maintaining safe physical distancing. Visiting is allowed outside the building.
We Welcome Your Feedback
Your COVID-19 Team values your input so please take a moment to give us some feedback or suggestions.
We Need Your Help
Your COVID-19 Team has been working hard to make in-person worship safe for everyone who wants to attend but we can’t do it all. We will need 6 volunteers each Sunday to serve as greeters and ushers. Training will be given in the week before our first service. If you are able to help, phone (204) 832-1000 or email the church firstname.lastname@example.org.

As has been mentioned in the Weekly Updates over the past couple of weeks, a Re-Opening Committee has been researching Government documents as well as United Church protocols in order to establish guidelines and protocols for our community of faith. After reviewing the committee’s proposal, the Oversight Council Executive supported the proposed plan to begin services on September 20, 2020. Next week’s update will include more detailed information as well as a survey which we ask you to respond to in the interest of helping the planning process. We have been waiting for this day for many months and I am sure that you are happy to hear that we are going to have opportunities in the future for in person worship; it is an important part of our lives.
This has been a difficult time for all with not being able to meet as a community. I trust that you are keeping well and hope to see you in the near future.
